GDPR Policy
Privacy and data protection are very important for the Pan-African Movement for Justice (PAMJ). We do not collect any personal information about you on this website without your expressed permission. Personal information that you voluntarily provide to PAMJ will be treated in accordance with the highest standards of security and privacy.
We operate in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679, which is a regulation of EU legislation on data protection and privacy for all individuals in the European Union.
What is it about?
The General Data Protection Regulation is an update of previous data protection legislation and aims to harmonize and strengthen the data protection rights of EU citizens in the handling and processing of their data. The GDPR entered into force on 25 May 2018. It sets out the security and confidentiality rules required for the processing of personal data (PII).
PAMJ is committed to your privacy and collects and retains information only about individuals or organizations that report incidents with consent and for the purpose of publishing anonymous reports about hate crimes, racial profiling and police brutality, discrimination, and other hate incidents. All personal data is stored and processed according to established research ethics and is only used in anonymized compilations unless the user has stated that they wants to be contacted.
If a user has indicated that they want to be contacted and has voluntarily provided their contact information, we can contact the user to 1) track a case, 2) to conduct qualitative follow-up interviews, 3) to connect the user to support resources, or 4) to request consent to contact the media or journalists for advocacy purposes.
Why does PAMJ need your personal information?
PAMJ only collects personal information for the above mentioned purposes. We strive to inform the user at each point of contact about the purpose of the information, as well as methods of storing and processing data. GDPR requires that the handling of the information is legal, fair and transparent.
Does PAMJ do anything else with your information?
We do not share your personal information with any third parties unless you have given your consent to be contacted in accordance with the questionnaire. Any personal information that you have provided can only be seen by PAMJs data analyst.
How long do we save your information?
GDPR requires that we minimize the information we retain unless required to provide services or due to applicable legal requirements, so we will only retain your information for as long as it is needed for the original purpose for which we collected it. If not needed, we will get rid of it!
